Baseball Honors KP3 with #3 Jersey retirement and a walk-off win over Seward to cap off the weekend

VERNON, TX - Vernon College baseball had an emotional and exciting weekend. The team honored Koby Peterson and his family before the final game of the series between Seward County by retiring the number 3. Koby fought a rare form of childhood cancer and lost the battle on May 8th, 2020. Koby was a huge fan and supporter of Vernon College baseball with dreams of becoming a Chap. Coach Sam Hayden and the team honored Koby and his family by retiring his favorite jersey number 3. Then the Chaps went on to win in walk-off fashion to cap off a special day in Vernon College athletics history.

A walk-off home run led Vernon College Chaps Varsity past Seward County Community College 9-8 on Saturday. The game was tied at eight with Vernon College Chaps Varsitybatting in the bottom of the ninth when Noah Anderson hit a solo homer.

Despite falling down by seven runs in the third inning, Seward County Community College tried to fight back. Seward County Community College tallied seven runs in the failed comeback. #5, #11,  #22, #14, #35, and #11 picked up RBIs to lead the rally.

Vernon College Chaps Varsity opened up scoring in the second inning.  Marco Barrerasingled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

In the top of the sixth inning, Seward County Community College tied things up at eight when #1 singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Vernon College Chaps Varsity notched four runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower by Vernon College Chaps Varsity was led by Jared Baehr and Brendon Concannon, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Clark Candiotti got the start for Vernon College Chaps Varsity. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on 15 hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

#20 started the game for Seward County Community College. undefined allowed five hits and eight runs over two and a third innings, striking out four.  #34 and #10 entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.

Vernon College Chaps Varsity socked two home runs on the day. Anderson went for the long ball in the ninth inning. Baehr had a long ball in the third inning.

Vernon College Chaps Varsity collected nine hits on the day.  Baehr and Concannon all collected multiple hits for Vernon College Chaps Varsity.  Baehr led Vernon College Chaps Varsity with three hits in four at bats.  Vernon College Chaps Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Luke Piper had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.

Seward County Community College racked up 18 hits.  #35, #14, #21, #11, #7, #5, and #22all managed multiple hits for Seward County Community College.
