SHAYA BIEVER WINS SHORT ROUND AT ODESSA RODEO WITH 2.4 SEC RUN

Vernon College was well represented last weekend at the first rodeo of the semester held at Odessa!

Shaya Biever split 2nd & 3rd in long round of breakaway with a 2.5 second run. In the short round she came back looking for some undivided respect from the 142 other women entered. She won the short round with a 2.4 second run along with the average.

Along with Shaya's success, Tori Brower split 6th place in long round with a 7.4 second run in the goat tying. Together they finished second in the women team closely trailing Tarleton State University.

The mens team had Tate Schmidt win 6th in the long round with 4.6 second run, 5th in the short round and 6th in average in the steer wrestling. William Barrows qualified in the short round in the bull riding as well.

Head Coach Marty Eakin - "Over all, we had a good start to the rodeos this semester. I saw a lot of great things from several of the kids. We were well represented and Shaya has worked hard to get to this point and was well deserving! We are very proud of her and excited to watch her continue on her winning path the rest of the rodeos. Shaya is living proof: you get back what you put into it!"

Shaya Biever - "It felt really good to kick off the first rodeo of the season with a win, we've been practicing and working hard prior to this rodeo, I was fortunate enough to draw two good calves that allowed me to win and be successful. I'm grateful to have a good facility to practice at and a great coach to help me be successful. You either get bitter or you get better."

The team will be back in action March 26 at the Ranger College rodeo in Sweetwater, Tx.
