Softball opens conference play with 2 road victories for the sweep

GM1: Kaila Of Vernon College Chaparral Varsity Shuts Out North Central Texas College Lions Varsity

Kaila Eastburn threw a shutout to lead Vernon College Chaparral Varsity past North Central Texas College Lions Varsity 7-0 on Wednesday.

Vernon College Chaparral Varsity secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning.  Vernon College Chaparral Varsity offense in the inning was led by Tatum TresterAmerica RubioChloe BryantAdrianna Cooney, and Eastburn, all driving in runs in the inning.

A single by Jillian Whitmire in the fifth inning was a positive for North Central Texas College Lions Varsity.

Eastburn earned the win for Vernon College Chaparral Varsity. The righthander went seven innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out 13.

Haleigh Hogan took the loss for North Central Texas College Lions Varsity. The pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out one.

Eastburn went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Vernon College Chaparral Varsity in hits.  Vernon College Chaparral Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Callie Yellin had 15 chances in the field, the most on the team.

Whitmire led North Central Texas College Lions Varsity with one hit in two at bats. North Central Texas College Lions Varsity was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Whitmire had the most chances in the field with four.

 

GM2: Vernon College Chaparral Varsity Clinches Lead In Sixth Inning To Defeat North Central Texas College Lions Varsity

Vernon College Chaparral Varsity stole the lead late and defeated North Central Texas College Lions Varsity 5-3 on Wednesday. The game was tied at three with Vernon College Chaparral Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Stonie Carrillo singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Vernon College Chaparral Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning, when Adie Brakedrew a walk, scoring one run.

After Vernon College Chaparral Varsity scored one run in the top of the second, North Central Texas College Lions Varsity answered with one of their own.  Vernon College Chaparral Varsity scored when Carrillo doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. North Central Texas College Lions Varsity then answered when Alyssa Rios doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Laynie Bastow led the Vernon College Chaparral Varsity to victory in the pitcher's circle. Bastow surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Elizabeth Schroeter took the loss for North Central Texas College Lions Varsity. Schroeterallowed seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out eight.

Vernon College Chaparral Varsity hit one home run on the day. Kaila Eastburn went for the long ball in the seventh inning.

Vernon College Chaparral Varsity racked up seven hits on the day.  Carrillo and Chloe Bryanteach collected multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral Varsity.  Bryant and Carrillo each collected two hits to lead Vernon College Chaparral Varsity.

Heather Hoffman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead North Central Texas College Lions Varsity in hits.
