Softball improves to 14-4 in conference play after sweeping Ranger on the road

GM1: Vernon College Chaparral Claims Lead In Fifth Inning To Defeat Ranger College

Vernon College Chaparral stole the lead late and defeated Ranger College 13-11 on Wednesday.  Vernon College Chaparral was down 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning when America Rubio doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs.

A seven-run lead in the sixth inning was just enough for Vernon College Chaparral to hold off Ranger College for the victory. Ranger College scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Everly Carey, a error, and a double by Emma Clark.

Vernon College Chaparral got on the board in the first inning when Kaila Eastburn doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Ranger College knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the third inning. Ranger College scored one run when Hanna Roye doubled.

After Vernon College Chaparral scored three runs in the top of the second, Ranger College answered with three of their own.  Vernon College Chaparral scored when Rubio grounded out, scoring one run, Camile Nunez doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, and Damiana Longo's sac fly scored one run for Vernon College Chaparral. Ranger College then answered when Carey homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and Laynie Bastowinduced Gaby Gomez to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Ranger College scored five runs in the sixth inning.  Carey, Roye, and Clark all drove in runs in the frame.

Bastow was credited with the victory for Vernon College Chaparral. Bastow lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and 11 runs while striking out five.

Noeli Quinones took the loss for Ranger College. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings.

Vernon College Chaparral launched one home run on the day. Nunez went for the long ball in the fifth inning.

Vernon College Chaparral racked up nine hits in the game.  Nunez and Adrianna Cooneyeach managed multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral.  Cooney and Nunez each managed two hits to lead Vernon College Chaparral.

Carey led Ranger College with three hits in three at bats.

 

GM2: Kaila Of Vernon College Chaparral Shuts Out Ranger College

Kaila Eastburn threw a shutout to lead Vernon College Chaparral past Ranger College 7-0 on Wednesday.

One bright spot for Ranger College was a single by Everly Carey in the second inning.

Eastburn was the winning pitcher for Vernon College Chaparral. Eastburn went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one.

Monique Montes took the loss for Ranger College. The righty allowed ten hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out four.

Vernon College Chaparral racked up ten hits.  Adrianna CooneyAdie BrakeAmerica Rubio, and Chloe Bryant all had multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral.  Cooney led Vernon College Chaparral with three hits in four at bats.
