Softball drops both games at home to McLennan

Game 1: Late Score Costs Vernon College Chaparral Against McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity

Saturday's game against McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity was a heartbreaker for Vernon College Chaparral, as they lost the lead late in a 9-4 defeat. The game was tied at three with McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Sidney Campion singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Vernon College Chaparral lost despite out-hitting McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity 11 to eight.

McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity got on the board in the first inning. Caitlyn Wong grounded out, scoring one run.

In the top of the fifth inning, McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity tied things up at three when Wong doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

Cheyenne Floyd pitched McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity to victory. The righthander surrendered four runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Laynie Bastow took the loss for Vernon College Chaparral. The pitcher allowed seven hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out one.

Vernon College Chaparral hit one home run on the day. Adie Brake had a long ball in the fourth inning.

Vernon College Chaparral tallied 11 hits.  Brake, Adrianna CooneyKaila Eastburn, and Chloe Bryant all managed multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral.  Cooney and Brake all had three hits to lead Vernon College Chaparral.

Julia Herzinger led McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity with two hits in three at bats.

Game 2: Vernon College Chaparral Falls To McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity After Sixth Inning Score

Vernon College Chaparral stayed in it until the end, but McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity pulled away late in a 5-1 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at one with McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Ka'Lyn Watson homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

In the first inning, Vernon College Chaparral got their offense started when Adie Brakesingled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning, when Lindsey Evans hit a solo homer.

Reese Taylor earned the victory on the rubber for McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out five.

Kaila Eastburn took the loss for Vernon College Chaparral. The righty went seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out ten.

McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity launched two home runs on the day. Evans had a long ball in the third inning. Watson had a four bagger in the sixth inning.

Vernon College Chaparral collected seven hits.  Brake and Stonie Carrillo all had multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral.  Carrillo and Brake all had two hits to lead Vernon College Chaparral.

McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity tallied eight hits on the day.  Evans and Rosemary Rivera each had multiple hits for McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity. McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Melayna Lopez had the most chances in the field with eight.
