VERNON, TX – The Vernon College women's volleyball team opened up Region 5 play on Saturday night, dropping a 3-0 match to preseason favorite Hill College.
 
Vernon had a hard time hitting on the night, as the Chaps battled against the #16 NJCAA NAtional ranked Rebels. The defense did its job against a solid Hill front line. Vernon put up a fight the first set of the match fall 25-21.
 
Hill jumped out to an early lead in the second stanza and Vernon could never get back to even in falling behind by two sets. The Rebels again started strong in the third set, but Vernon clawed its way back to make the final set competive. Eventually falling 25-17

Vernon will continue Region 5 play Monday, Feb. 22, when the Chaps will host NCTC for a 6 p.m. match at ther King Center.
