Softball drops heartbreaker to MCC after out hitting Highlanders

Vernon College Chaparral Claws Back, But Falls Just Short Against McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity

Vernon College Chaparral's effort to come back from down six runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 10-8 to McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity on Friday.  Vernon College Chaparral scored four runs on a grand slam in the seventh inning.

Vernon College Chaparral couldn't keep up with McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity early in the game. McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity scored on an error and a home run by Lindsey Evans in the second inning.

McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second an error scored two runs for McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity and Evans homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Vernon College Chaparral scored four runs in the seventh inning.  Vernon College Chaparralscored its runs on a grand slam by America Rubio.

Reese Taylor pitched McLennan Community College Highlanders Varsity to victory. Taylorwent seven innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and striking out three.

Laynie Bastow took the loss for Vernon College Chaparral. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing two hits and six runs.

Vernon College Chaparral launched one home run on the day. Rubio went yard in the seventh inning.

Vernon College Chaparral totaled 13 hits.  Stonie CarrilloAdie Brake, Rubio, and Adrianna Cooney each managed multiple hits for Vernon College Chaparral.  Carrillo went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Vernon College Chaparral in hits.
